Ekemini Uwan
Ekemini Uwan (pronounced Eh-keh-mih-knee Oo-wan) is a public theologian, international human rights activist, and co-author of the 2023 NAACP Image Award Nominated book Truth’s Table: Black Women’s Musings on Life, Love, and Liberation. She co-hosts the award-winning podcast Truth's Table and Get In The Word With Truth’s Table. Uwan is a 2022 Aspen Ideas Festival Fellow and a 2023 fellow at The Aspen Institute. She serves as a Special Advisor for The Aspen Institute’s Racial Justice and Religion Collective. In addition to being an NAACP Image Award Nominated Author for Outstanding Literary Work, Ekemini is also a contributing writer for Hallmark Mahogany and a charter member of The International Civil Working Group of the Permanent Forum for People of African Descent at the United Nations.

What is the ministry challenge keeping you up at night?

I'm concerned about the discipleship void, and decline of church attendance among Gen X, millennials, and Gen Z. Additionally, I'm deeply concerned about the doctrinal and biblical illiteracy.

What is the greatest hope for God’s work in 2023 you’re dreaming about?

Revival and repentance of the American church.

What is a non-ministry activity that brings you joy and energy?

Working out and spending quality time with friends and family.

What are the top 1-3 essentials for the Church in America to address to reach those who are spiritually open, but not yet following Jesus?

Answering hard questions intelligently and with nuance, mixed with truth and grace. Hypocrisy that is so prevalent in the American church: meaning that the world sees an incongruence between what we profess to believe and how we live.
