Dr. Walter Scott Thomas, Jr. is a living testament to the principle of leading by example, not only through words but also through actions. Dr. Thomas answered the call to preach the gospel in 2001 and delivered his initial sermon on July 20th of that year at New Psalmist Baptist Church, Baltimore, MD, under the spiritual guidance of his father and pastor, Bishop Walter S. Thomas, Sr. In 2007, he was ordained into the ministry. Dr. Thomas pursued his educational journey with unwavering commitment, graduating Cum Laude from Morehouse College with a major in Religious Studies and a minor in Psychology. He excelled as the top-ranking senior in his Major Department. Furthering his theological education, he earned a Master of Divinity Degree from Howard University School of Divinity and achieved a high point of academic excellence earning the Doctor of Ministry degree from the United Theological Seminary in Dayton, Ohio. Throughout his journey, Dr. Thomas has been a catalyst for positive change. His ministry at the First Baptist Church of Steelton in Harrisburg, PA, which began in November 2014, witnessed remarkable growth and the introduction of new ministry components such as public safety initiatives, social media outreach, web streaming services, prison support programs, and online giving platforms. In August 2023, Dr. Thomas was elected as the Pastor-Elect of New Psalmist Baptist Church in Baltimore, MD, a testament to his dedication to ministry and serving the community. Dr. Thomas's commitment to service extends beyond the pulpit. He has actively engaged in various initiatives, from advocating for educational reform to participating in a peace summit in Hiroshima, Japan. He has served as Vice-President of the African-American Ministerial Alliance of Steelton and Vicinity and as a member of the Governor’s Advisory Commission on African-American Affairs for the State of Pennsylvania. In recognition of his profound impact, Dr. Thomas was inducted into the Morehouse College Martin Luther King Jr. Board of Preachers in 2018 and continues to be an engaged member of the Kingdom Association of Covenant Pastors. Beyond his pastoral duties, Dr. Thomas finds balance in his personal life. He is happily married to Mrs. Jarrette L. Thomas, and together, they nurture their two cherished children, Lillian Grace and Walter, III. With a spirit of excellence, Dr. Walter Scott Thomas, Jr. remains unwavering in his commitment to serving God and enriching the lives of those he encounters through his ministry and service.
